語源 / Etymology

ギリシャ語の autopsia に由来し、**auto-**（自分自身）と opsis（見ること）を組み合わせた言葉である。つまり「自分の目で見ること」が原義であり、転じて「遺体を直接観察して死因を調べる行為」を意味するようになった。17世紀頃から英語で医学用語として使われ始めた。
