語源 / Etymology

中英語の disavauntage に由来し、古フランス語の desavantage から借用された語。接頭辞 dis-（否定・反対）と advantage（有利・利点）の組み合わせで、「有利でないこと」という意味を表す。advantage 自体はフランス語 avant（前に）から派生しており、「前に進んでいる状態」が原義である。つまり disadvantage は「前に進めない状態＝不利」という構造を持つ。
