語源 / Etymology

古英語の tōþ に由来し、ゲルマン祖語の *tanþs にさかのぼる。さらにインド・ヨーロッパ祖語の *h₁dónts（噛むもの）が起源とされ、ラテン語の dens（歯、英語の dental の語源）やギリシャ語の odous とも同根である。複数形は不規則変化で teeth となる。
