語源 / Etymology

ラテン語の continuatio（つなぎ合わせること、連続）に由来し、動詞 continuare（途切れなく続ける）から派生した。continuare はさらに continuus（途切れのない）から来ており、その語根は **con-**（共に）と tenere（保つ）に遡る。14世紀頃に古フランス語を経由して英語に入った。
