語源 / Etymology

herdsman は古英語の heordmann に由来します。herd（群れ）と man（人）の組み合わせで、「群れを率いる人」という意味です。herd 自体はゲルマン祖語の herdō に遡り、家畜の群れを意味していました。中英語期を経て現在の綴りに定着しました。
