語源 / Etymology

ラテン語の intercedere に由来する。inter（～の間に）と cedere（行く、進む）が組み合わさった語で、「二者の間に入っていく」という原義を持つ。16世紀頃に英語に取り入れられ、仲裁や調停のために間に立つという意味で使われるようになった。
