語源 / Etymology

ギリシャ語の petalon（薄い板、葉）に由来し、ラテン語 petalum を経て、18世紀初頭に英語に取り入れられた。元々は「広げられたもの」を意味するギリシャ語の動詞 petannynai（広げる）から派生した言葉である。
