語源 / Etymology

ラテン語の rectificare に由来し、rectus（正しい）と facere（作る、する）が組み合わさった語である。中世ラテン語を経て、古フランス語 rectification として使われ、15世紀頃に英語に取り入れられた。「正しい状態にする」という原義がそのまま現代の意味に受け継がれている。
