語源 / Etymology

ドイツ語の Statistik（国家に関する学問）に由来し、これはラテン語の statisticum（国家の）から派生した。もとは status（状態、国家）が語源で、18世紀に国家の人口や経済に関するデータを扱う学問として「統計学」が確立された。形容詞形 statistical は、名詞 statistic に接尾辞 -al を付けて形成された。
