語源 / Etymology

古英語の trēowth（忠実、誠実）に由来し、これはさらに trēowe（信頼できる、忠実な）から派生した語である。ゲルマン祖語の *trewwþō にさかのぼり、「信頼」や「誠実」という意味が原義にある。中英語期に truthe となり、「事実に合致していること」という現代的な意味が定着した。
