語源 / Etymology

ラテン語の aestimare（価値を判断する、評価する）に由来する。これが古フランス語の estimacion を経て、14世紀頃に英語に取り入れられた。もともと「価値の判断」という意味で使われ、やがて「数量の概算」や「人に対する評価・敬意」という意味にも広がった。
