語源 / Etymology

16世紀に英語の名詞 haste（急ぎ）に動詞化の接尾辞 -en を付けて生まれた語。haste 自体は古フランス語の haste に由来し、さらにゲルマン祖語の *haifstiz（激しさ、勢い）にさかのぼる。「速さ」や「激しさ」という原義が、現代の「急がせる・急ぐ」という意味へと発展した。
