語源 / Etymology

ラテン語の speculari（観察する、見張る）に由来し、さらにその語源は specula（見張り台）、specere（見る）にさかのぼる。もともとは「注意深く観察する」という意味だったが、やがて「証拠なしに考えをめぐらす」という意味に発展した。金融における「投機する」という意味は18世紀頃から使われるようになった。
