語源 / Etymology

中世ラテン語の identificare に由来し、idem（同じ）と facere（作る）が組み合わさった語。「同じものであると確認する」という意味から、現在の「特定する・見分ける」という意味に発展した。16世紀頃から英語で使われ始めた。
