語源 / Etymology

phrase という語は、16世紀にラテン語の phrasis（話し方、表現法）を経て、ギリシャ語の phrazein（示す、伝える）に由来する。接尾辞 -ing が付いて「表現する行為・方法」を意味する名詞となった。音楽の分野でも、メロディーの区切り方や演奏上の表現法を指す用語として広く使われている。
